Avraham Eshed

Born in 1945, Avraham Eshed is a ninth generation Israeli and second-generation expert in the diamond industry. Eshed’s family, originally from Greece, lived in Netanya. His father, Eliyahu Eshed, worked as a diamond cutter from the late 1930s, and recognized as the Diamond Industry Dignitary in 2006. Avraham completed his high school studies at ORT school in Netanya, and then joined the IDF, where he began his military service in the Israeli Air Force Flight Academy, later moving to the 7th Brigade as a technical squad commander.

At the age of 20, upon completing his army services in 1965, Avraham joined his father in establishing a diamond polishing factory in Netanya, employing 30 cutters at its peak.

In 1969, Avraham Eshed began working at the Tarshish company, where he acquired additional knowledge in rough diamonds and diamond manufacturing.

In 1970, he left Tarshish and together with a Swiss partner, established Hardiam, a company that imported rough diamonds and gemstones from Brazil, and marketed them in Switzerland and Israel.

Avraham Eshed traveled to diamond and gemstone mines in Africa and Brazil at a time when mobile phones were not yet available. Still, he made connections with private mining owners in Bahia and Minas Gerais in Brazil, and even studied Portuguese.

While in South Africa, Avraham also established contacts with private mine owners, from whom he imported diamonds and precious stones.

In 1971, Eshed along with his Swiss partner joined Icam Gem, which, in 1977, was recognized as Outstanding Exporter on behalf of the State of Israel by the late President of Israel, Ephraim Katzir.

In 1982, Avraham parted from his partners, and together with his wife Nitza, established two companies in the two fields he loved most: Eshed Diam for Diamonds and Gemstar which specialize in the production and sale of emeralds. He later also founded Bilbao Real Estate Investments.

Diam Eshed was a pioneer in the production and manufacturing of large rough diamonds, weighing 20 to 150 carats. The company implemented technological innovations in the production stages, in order to maximize the yield.

Diam Eshed manufactures and exports a wide variety of diamonds weighing 3 carats to 30 carats and up, in a variety of shapes and qualities. The diamonds are marketed through their offices in Israel, Hong Kong, New York and Los Angeles. The company’s highly skilled team directly handles large customers . They also participate in about ten rough diamond auctions each month.

Gemstar was recognized as Outstanding Exporter on behalf of the State of Israel by the late President Haim Herzog in 1989. The company has a diamond-polishing factory in the Ramat Gan Diamond Exchange complex, operating a sophisticated robot by the Sarine Company to facilitate the production process. The rough emerald stones are primarily purchased from Gemfields, the leading emerald mining company in the field.
In 2011, the company recognized as Outstanding Exporter Award for Asia by the Israel-Asia Chamber of Commerce.

Avraham Eshed is one of the founding shareholders and serves as a director at Sarine Technologies, established in 1988. The company is a pioneer and leader in the development and manufacturing of instruments based on optics and laser technologies for measurement, planning and cutting diamonds. https://sarine.com/
