This amazing 195-carat natural rough emerald comes from the prominent Kagem Mine in Zambia. This rough emerald shows a rare combination of size, high clarity, strong luster and an extremely appealing color which can be recognized as the “Kagem Color” — a green with a soft yellow hue which, when polished, will become a fresh “Grass Green” emerald color.

This rough emerald is one out of a five-piece lot weighting a total of 1065 carats that was bought by us at the Gemfields High-Grade Rough Emerald Auction.

This rough gem is part of the Gübelin Gem Lab’s Provenance Proof Initiative, which determines an emerald’s paternity by inserting DNA-based, nano-sized particles into the gem. The result is that it can be conclusively proven which mine an emerald originated from, thus enhancing transparency in the global gemstone market.

This data was uploaded to the Provenance Proof blockchain, which means that all of the information regarding this emerald’s origin and quality are securely recorded — from the mine all the way to the end consumer.
